In Naushahro Feroze district, the 10-kilometer-long Dali Minor Canal, which branches off from the Rohri Canal at Bhiriya Kandiaro RD-33 Budak Distributary, has become a victim of the Irrigation Department's prolonged negligence.
Despite more than three decades having passed, this important canal—which serves 14 watercourses and irrigates a command area of approximately 5,500 acres—has neither been lined nor properly desilted.
Breaches have become a routine occurrence along the canal, forcing farmers to repair the damaged sections at their own expense. The movement of livestock has further weakened the canal banks, preventing water from reaching farmers at the tail end of the irrigation system.
Affected farmers have repeatedly staged protests and submitted written complaints to irrigation officials, but no practical steps have been taken to line or rehabilitate the canal.
The Dali Minor Canal is currently dry, putting wheat, okra, and fodder crops at risk of severe damage. Adding to the hardship, the area's SCARP tube wells are also non-functional, leaving farmers to face a double crisis.
Bhiria 's guavas in Sindh were once exported beyond Pakistan's borders. Today, its orchards are steadily disappearing. The decline is not driven by natural disasters alone it is also the result of human decisions, changing land use, and years of neglect.
